Ultimate Relaxation in Montego Bay Jamaica

Montego Bay Jamaica was the second part of our trip booked through Destinology (the first being Miami). We had booked into an amazing resort called Round Hill Hotel and Villas. It’s set on a hill side with lots of individual villas each with their own private pool. There is also a ‘main’ hotel building towards the bottom of the hill, right by the beach.

Round Hill opened in 1953 and was a glamourous destination to global icons of the 50s and 60s. John F. Kennedy honeymooned at Round Hill. More recently, Ralph Lauren designed the rooms of the hotel and he also has his own private villa. Truly a luxurious destination!

Our First Ever Upgrade

We had booked a room as opposed to one of the villas but amazingly when we checked in we had been upgraded to villa number 12! The villa was beautiful with a bedroom, open-plan living room, kitchen and private swimming pool. This was the first time I’d ever been upgraded whilst on holiday and so naturally I was super excited.

We were shown to our room by Kingsley, who is an absolute legend and had been working at the resort since the early 1970s! He showed us around our villa, made sure we had everything we needed (including a complimentary bottle of Jamaican rum) and explained the resort to us. All the while, I was wishing him to hurry up and leave so I could show my excitement rather than casually pretending like this is something we do all the time!

We were so well looked after at Round Hill. Every evening we completed a form with what we wanted for breakfast the next day and what time we would like to eat it. Our breakfast (comprised of eggs, pancakes, toast, fresh fruit, juice and hot beverages) was prepared ready for us by two wonderful housekeepers who couldn’t do enough for us.

Rolling out of bed every morning to our patio table set for breakfast and a view of Montego Bay was just bliss! Not only that, all staff at Round Hill made sure my coeliac needs wer catered for, bringing me gluten free bread with every meal without me having to request it. A sign of excellent customer service and true luxury, if ever there was one.

Breakfast with a view made to order every morning, enjoyed from our private villa.

A Holiday to Remember

As soon as Kingsley left after showing us around our villa, I was quite keen to go for the complimentary daily afternoon tea as I hadn’t had lunch at the airport and was therefore in a huge food mood. What happened next caught me completely off guard… Whilst admiring the view of the beautiful bay from our villa, Alex got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!

Obviously I said yes! I couldn’t believe he’d kept it secret the whole time – I hadn’t expected it at all. We decided to keep it to ourselves and only tell people when we got home allowing us to enjoy a celebratory week of engagement with just each other. It was a great relaxing week and I really enjoyed just us having the opportunity to celebrate!

Alex had another surprise scheduled in for that evening. He had been in touch with the hotel and arranged a private dinner for us in a secluded area right by the beach. It was so romantic and the food was absolutely delicious, the perfect end to an unforgettable day!

Zip-Lining Through the Jungle

We decided to use our time in Montego Bay Jamaica for some much-needed R&R so we didn’t book in too many things. One of the trips we did do was zip-lining which I had really been looking forward to.

We were picked up from our hotel and taken into the Jamaican jungle through lots of tiny villages. It was nice to see how true Jamaicans lived but it was very clear that there was a big contrast between the rich and the poor.

View from one of the zip-lines

The zip-lining itself consisted of 5 different lines, each longer than the one before. We worked our way through them finishing with the longest zip line in the Caribbean at a length of 1600 feet! The views were absolutely breathtaking!

The Round Hill Spa

We didn’t really do much else in Montego Bay Jamaica besides for splashing about in the sea, snorkelling, going on the pedalos and glass-bottom boat and enjoying our private pool! Let’s face it, that’s not something you have every day.

We decided to finish the holiday in style by booking into the luxurious spa and enjoying a treatment. The spa menu at Round Hill is really extensive with so many options to choose from making it quite difficult to select what we wanted!

We opted for the ‘Spa at Sunset Package’ which included a 50 minute couples massage followed by champagne and a cheese platter on the pier whilst watching the sun disappearing into the Caribbean Sea. A perfect way to end our holiday celebrating our engagement!

Spectacular scenery from the view point up in the hills at Round Hill. Doesn’t this look like the definition of paradise?

I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Montego Bay Jamaica and it’s definitely a trip I won’t be forgetting in a hurry. However, we didn’t get to explore much outside of the fantastic resort. I’d definitely be keen to return to Jamaica and explore more of the culture next time.

My three favourite things about Montego Bay Jamaica

1. Zip-lining through the Jamaican jungle was just the most amazing experience.

2. Having use of our own private villa and pool.

3. The food at the resort was so delicious. They served complimentary snacks of plantain crisps with an olive tapenade. The most delicious tapenade I’ve ever had!
