The Dominican Republic is the second largest Caribbean country and is easily accessible with many direct flights from the Europe and the US. The wild, natural beauty of this incredible island coupled with the friendly people and delicious food make this island a must for your next trip to the Caribbean.

The Dominican Republic experiences glorious weather all year round. There are two distinct high seasons: July – August which are the warmest months of the year, followed by December – February when the weather has cooled down slightly following the summer months. It’s also worth bearing in mind that the Dominican is located in the centre of the Caribbean hurricane belt and tends to get hit by severe tropical storms during the June – November hurricane season.

Although we didn’t visit for any specific reason, the sheer number of luxury resorts makes the Dominican Republic perfect for any celebration. There are many places to stay on the island, each offering a unique experience of this tropical paradise. Punta Cana is famous for its buzzing nightlife, swanky resorts and stunning beaches whereas Bavaro is more synonymous with pampering and relaxation. Alternatively, head to Puerto Plata for great museums, shopping and dancing the night away to those infectious salsa beats.

The island has so much to offer all kinds of travellers. Whether it be zip-lining through the lush tropical scenery, playing a round on the manicured championship golf courses, exploring the underwater wildlife or just catching some rays on those stunning powder-white beaches, you are bound to be spoilt for choice with the Dominican Republic.

Sharing influences from Spanish, African, American, French and the native Taino has created a melting-pot of cultures resulting in great food and music that will stay with you long after you have flown out of this unforgettable destination.

The question is, what are you waiting for?
